There are different kinds of ‘perfumes’, depending on how concentrated the fragrance is, and next we will discuss the differences:

Perfume: This has the highest concentration of a fragrance and is therefore also the most expensive. Depending on the brand, 15 to 30 percent perfume concentrate is dissolved in 90 percent alcohol. A few drops of perfume are enough to smell delicious.
Eau de Parfum (edp): edp is perfume with a lower fragrance concentration (10 to 15 percent) that is diluted with 90 percent alcohol. Because eau de perfume is less concentrated than perfume, you should use more of this for the same result.
Eau de toilette (edt): edt has a fragrance concentration ranging from 5 to 10 percent and is usually diluted with 85 percent alcohol. Eau de toilette is available in vials and atomizers.
Eau de cologne (edc): edc has an even lower percentage of perfume concentrate, ranging from 3 to 5 percent and has an alcohol percentage of 70 to 80 percent.

Now that you know what kinds of perfume there are, you may wonder what kinds of fragrancies there are. Fragrances can be divided into the following categories:

Floral: these scents are derived from flowers, such as roses and freesias. Floral scents fit well with spring. Kenzo’s flower is an example of this.
Fruity: these are scents that carry a clear fruit smell. Fruity scents fit well with the summer. Commonly used ingredients are lemon, apple and orange. Be Delicious by Donna Karan is an example of this.
Woody: these are warm, mysterious and sensual smells. Woody fragrances fit well with autumn. Commonly used ingredients are sandalwood and cedar. Hypnotic Poison by Dior is an example of a woody fragrance.

Oriental: these are heavy, spicy scents that linger long. Oriental scents fit well with the winter. Commonly used ingredients are amber, clove, cinnamon and vanilla. Obsession by Calvin Klein is an example of an Oriental fragrance.

Where to Apply

The most suitable places to apply perfume, are those body patches where your blood vessels come closest to the skin surface. At the same time, these are the warmest places on your body. These are the most suitable places for applying the perfume:

– Behind your ears
– Your wrists and between your elbows
– Your neck and the base of your throat
– Between your breasts
– Your knees and ankles

Your body temperature also plays a role in the application of the perfume. The warmer you are, the longer the fragrance lingers. So if you are someone who is generally warm, you do not have to apply a lot of perfume. If you are someone who is cold on a regular basis, you will need to apply some more perfume.

Usage Tips

Perfume can smell wonderful and be an addition to your personality, but wrong use has the opposite effect. You should therefore keep the following usage tips:

  • Spray your scent immediately after showering, so your pores can absorb the smell while they are open.
  • Spray in moderation. Nothing is as disturbing as someone who has ‘fallen into the perfume bottle’. Most of the perfumes require one or two injections. In the evening you can spray the perfume more generously than during the day.
  • Spray some perfume in the air and walk through it.

You can also spray some of it on your hairbrush and brush your hair with it.

Do not spray your scent on your clothes or jewelry, here you can leave nasty yellow spots. Do not rub your wrists together after applying some perfume. This will flatten the smell. If you lose the scent of the perfume during the day, you can take the bottle with you in your bag and spray after half a day. But beware: if you do not smell the perfume anymore, you can also become habituated. Ask someone else if your scnet is gone. To preserve the color and fragrance of your perfume, it is best to store it in a cool place and out of the sunlight.
