It started at the end of December of the year 609 (Allah is the All-Knowing One) in the Cave of Hira. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, visited this cave more often to relax and pray. On the day in question, however, he was visited here by the Archangel Gabriel with a message.
After this first revelation, the Archangel Gabriel, peace be upon him, visited an unknown number of times. At first only one verse was revealed, while the content of other revelations consisted of several verses. During one of these revelations, the Prophet, peace be upon him, learned not only new verses but also information about the classification of the verses. Thus it became clear to which chapter the relevant verses were to be added to, but also when the upcoming holy book was to be expanded with a new chapter.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, recited and memorized the sacred texts after each revelation and then recited them to his companions. Ultimately, 6,236 verses were revealed between 609 and 632, and the final Quran has 114 chapters. To ensure that the sacred texts remained authentic, Allah ordered Archangel Gabriel to repeat all revealed verses during the month of Ramadan.
The prophet, peace be upon him, died in 632 and in the same year Abu Bakr as-Siddiq was appointed as the first caliph. During his Caliphate, the entire Quran was first written down and collected in one single book. During the Caliphate of Uthman, the Muslim community grew explosively. Converts to Islam were not only found on the Arabian Peninsula but also beyond.

Quran

The Quran of today is exactly the same as the copies that Uthman began to distribute from the year 651. This is also confirmed by the Quran fragments found in the library of the University of Birmingham.
